Do you think the IMDS Performance Evaluation Questionnaire is a useful tool for improving the automotive industries efficiency in the gathering of IMDS data?

The IMDS Steering Committee has recently published the IMDS Performance Evaluation Questionnaire on the IMDS Public pages. This allows companies to effectively benchmark their compliance programs against other companies, or use it as a tool to identify deficiencies in their compliance programs and make improvements. This can be seen as a shift towards greater self regulation in the automotive industry with regards product compliance. I think this is a natural progression as industry is set to respond to a proliferation of of laws and voluntary initiatives across the globe. Companies cannot rely on the regulatory authorities to regulate industry – this has to come from within in order to minimise the business risks of non-compliance (e.g. Mattel, Sony Play station etc..)
Procedural vs declaration / testing based compliance
