Note on IMDS
The End of Life Vehicles Directive places an obligation on Car manufacturers in conjunction with their supply chain to limit the use of hazardous substances and meet high targets for the recyclability in new vehicles. The International Material Data System (IMDS) is a centralised database that has been adopted by the majority of manufacturers to allow the automotive supply chain to report on components and materials supplied to manage their compliance with the ELV Directive as well as broader substance of concern management issues.
IMDS compliance is now a well established condition of supply within the automotive sector. New challenges on the horizon such as the RRR Directive Type Approval Amendments entering into force in 2008 will increase the drivers for managing your IMDS compliance within a robust, efficient and auditable process.
